travels

mum decided to leave for pennsylvania in the most absurd yet strangely appropriate mode of transport. she will be flying from ny to state college, pennsylvania.

the travel looks something like this: get daughter to drive to LGA, check in / load, fly to PHL, change planes, fly to SCE, get chauffeur to drive to hotel and conference location - approximately 7 hours.

bus ride to state college would have been 4 hours and hundreds of dollars cheaper and me driving there also similarly awesome. but mom, she decided on comfort. who said i wasn't after all my mother's daughter!

providence

A and i ran away to providence, rhode island for my artiste friend T's graduation. it was one of those trips that make you feel very grown up. studio visits, art galleries, fancy dinner and lunch locations... very wine & cheese without the cheese!
we stayed at a beautiful clubhouse where they treated us like very important people - even referring to us as "you girls"... like in the morning when we arrived they said - "you girls now have a good time"or "are you girls going out for a dance"
it was so .. um.. southern but not
you know you've lived in new york too long when everything polite seems "southern" in some way.
anyway, i have a nasty cold and cough that i'm going to go nurse for a bit - woe me.

balletomane

i used to identify as a dancer, people knew me as a dancer. now people identify me as many different things associated with going out / partying / shopping / photography / film / communicating... few still remember me as a has been dancer who doesn't dance. so when i decided to join ballet at a manhattan studio, J (my ballet teacher who didn't go pro for ballet because of her ankles) asked me why ballet and why now... i said just that. i used to be a dancer and i want to remember what it felt like.
so one class later, i am excited to go back in to the studio. A, who has jumped at the chance to become a ballerina, is taking the class with me. for 1 hour every tuesday, we will be in front of a mirror, standing next to the bar, remembering the basics of dance and posture. the thought excites me like none other. truly.
